James Valley Drovers
The James
Valley Drovers were formed in 2004 as a unit of the James Valley Shrine Club.
While small in number, the group has been very active, appearing with their
chuck wagon in parades around the area.
The Drivers are immediately identifiable due to their unique chaps, wrist
cuffs and saddles, all bearing the symbols of the Shrine and Masons.
The main emphasis of the unit, however, is the preservation of old west
skills coupled with fund raising for the Shrine through Authentic Ranch Rodeos
they have produced. Rodeos have been
done in Watertown, Wessington Springs, Miller and at the South Dakota State
Fair. Anyone seeking more information or interested in becoming a Drover is
encouraged to contact the secretary.

Shriners have fun helping children and they want children to have fun
growing up. The Fire Crew, spouses
and widows meet every Friday a.m. for breakfast in Huron.

organizations. They assist Relay for
Life with balloons and medallions for the survivor’s march.
This unit participates in many parades throughout the year both locally

This unit was
started in 2007. The Racing Club has
purchased a Super Stock race car that will be used to advertise the Shrine.
The car will be street legal and can be driven in parades and shown at
car shows. Their long term plan is
to have a second car that can actually be raced at local tracks in Aberdeen,
Watertown & Huron. Shriners
interested in being a member requires only a $100 donation to the unit.
This will get their name on the car and a sticker to put on their vehicle
to advertise the club. Any unit
member can drive this car in parades or take it to a show in their area.

means spending a night or two.
