WELCOME TO YELDUZ

On behalf of the 2008 Midwest Shrine Association Committee and the Nobles and Ladies of Yelduz, we wish to extend an invitation to all Nobles and their Ladies of the Midwest Shrine Association, to come to Aberdeen to participate in the activities of the 2008 Summer Session, August 7, 8 & 9.

The Session Committees are putting together final plans for a fun-filled session.  Aberdeen has a population of approximately 25,000.  Like many towns of the Midwest, Aberdeen was built around the newly developing railroad systems.  Aberdeen grew out of the success of the railroads; hence, the nickname “The Hub City”.

Aberdeen has nine movie screens, two golf courses, numerous parks, picnic areas, tennis courts, a bowling alley, indoor and outdoor pools, roller skating rink, a dance pavilion, indoor and outdoor archery ranges, trapshooting range and gun club, horse trails, volleyball courts, a mini-golf course, waterslide, bump boats/go-karts, batting cages, paddle boats/canoes, bike/walking trails, softball complex, soccer fields, Lakewood Mall and a vast variety of antique shops, specialty stores and restaurants. Just over the rainbow is where you’ll find Aberdeen’s magical theme parks – Storybook Land and the Land of Oz. Whatever your age, there is something for you to see and enjoy!

The Downtown Association is working to restore the historic downtown area.  The Dacotah Prairie Museum is dedicated to telling the story of this land and its people.  Be sure to stop in and view the Shrine display on the second floor landing, which will be there during the month of August.

Plans are to have 2 parades, one on Thursday and the other on Saturday, both starting at the Yelduz Shrine Center and concluding at Melgaard Park.  The majority of the activities will be held at Central High School located in the SE corner of the city.  The Yelduz Shrine Center will be open for those needing information and the after-parade oases.

We encourage you to visit Yelduz’s website at www.yelduz.org and click on the MSA page.  Also visit the link to the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

See you in August!!

PARADES

This year there will be two (2) parades, one on Thursday night and the other on Saturday morning.  Both parades will use the same parade route.  A map is included showing the assembly area and parade route.

The Thursday parade route will start at Yelduz Shrine Center and will conclude at Melgaard Park, which is one (1) mile in length.  There will be an after-parade lunch held at Melgaard Park.  An oasis will be held at the Yelduz Shrine Center following lunch.  There will be food and beverage, along with entertainment at the oasis.  The Thursday night parade assembly will begin at 5:00 p.m. with step off at 6:00 p.m.

The Saturday parade route will be the same as Thursday’s, which will start at the Yelduz Shrine Center and conclude at Melgaard Park, which is 1 mile in length.  Parade assembly will begin at 10:00 a.m., with step off at 11:00 a.m.  There will be an after-parade lunch at Melgaard Park.  There will be an oasis following lunch at the Yelduz Shrine Center, where there will be food and beverage.
